Daily Milk Docket Message: Please check your vat for birds before closing it to begin milking. Several loads of milk have had to be disposed of recently due to birds caught in the pump.
A latest Fonterra Daily Milk Docket warns that recently some farmers have had problems with birds getting into the vats, and they've had to dump tanker loads of milk as a result. Farmers are being asked to be vigilant in protecting their milk room from bird problems yet most are still at a lost as to how to keep birds away permanently. "Aside from sitting there with the shot-gun," as one farmer recently commented.

'Wingo' received AsureQuality approval late last year as being safe to use in milk and food processing areas. By applying 'Wingo' directly to the milk room surfaces, focusing on where the birds are getting into the room, you can keep the milk room free of birds permanently. 'Wingo' will work for up to 2yrs in covered areas so apply to the entry points and all obviously landing surfaces in the milk room.

You can even apply 'Wingo' directly onto the vat as it remains stable up to 85 degrees, whereas the vat will only reach a maximum temperature of 80 degrees.

Other areas to apply 'Wingo' around your farm to prevent birds perching or nesting are on the air lines in the milking shed and wherever the birds are stopping like stainless pipes, light fittings, ceiling beams, roof guttering and meal feeding systems.

If you are applying 'Wingo' to exposed outdoor areas, you will need to reapply the gel every 6-8mths. You will be able to tell when the gel needs reapplying as the birds will start coming back again.
